We recently became aware of a fraudulent email (see sample below) being issued to tax preparers. Although the email asking them to update their e-Services information appears to come from the IRS, it does not!
If you somehow receive one of these emails, do not respond or click on the links that are used to capture e-Services usernames and passwords. You may put sensitive information at risk if you open or respond to this email. (Tax preparers may also put their clients’ information at risk if they respond.)
The IRS is aware of the scam and has issued an alert. The only action needed is simply to delete the email.
